A cartoonist can be helpful during times of unrest.

My opinion of Trump, before the election.

Remember folks, American midterms are in 2018.  There is always hope, if you seek it.

(And on a slightly related note, Nova Scotia's election is likely in 2017, so, I've got some comedy to prepare.)

THE LATEST DREAM RAID - page # 10

PAGE 10, PANEL 1;
That is an actual photo of a cut up squid I ate one time. I had it again recently, it wasn't as tasty as I remembered.

PANEL 3;
You can see Kokoro and 'Bennywolf' on the background screens. (Yes, I filled up some of the screens with the same character. This was LITERALLY the last thing I did in the comic.)

THE LATEST DREAM RAID - page # 9

PAGE 9, PANEL 1;
The four legged monster is based off of Iridescent. This is the second reference to Iridescent Ersatz in the comic.

PANEL 2;
The robot punching the giant monster is a 'Mecha-NixDieAlley.'

Her arms and legs were inspired by Voltron. Although, they are clearly not lions. Actually, the colours of the legs don't match Voltron, they match the first Power Rangers Megazord.

Yes the arms are a warthog and a rhino.

The girl pointing up and the robot bear. This was inspired by an actual photo taken of my late step-sister, where she stood on a rogue black bear shot by our father.

Clearly this bear is a reference to Freddy Fazbear.

THE LATEST DREAM RAID - page # 8

PAGE 8; PANEL 1;
The foreground characters are meant to be a tribute to the Naw Kids.

The shape of Waffley's steed was inspired by one of the steeds from Golden Axe.

PANEL 2;
The sword Waffley's holding is the Emberedge.

Some of the hands held high in unison to Waffley's incredible speech were inspired by Mega Man, Samus Aran, and both the Surfing Waffle and Wafflette.

PANEL 3;
Though it wasn't intended, the large muscular character ended up looking like the Ultimate Warrior.

The jewel on his belt's colours match the amiibo logo. Just don't tell Nintendo, k'?

I actually made a real version of the necklace the far right character has on.

PANEL 4;
If you look closely, you can see shadows resembling like Ziz and Pyrotzki.

THE LATEST DREAM RAID - page # 7

PAGE 7, PANEL 1;
I picked red, green and blue for these scenes because all colour comes from these colours. I picked yellow because I didn't want to repeat the other three.

PANEL 7;
The crowd mostly consist of original characters. But the crowd also includes one of the clowns from the original Claudia video, the koala from 'Team Australia', Malacefire, the Lobsterskunk, Shane the Chicken-monkey, the Disturbed Beaver, and even Hey Mister.

Waffley's armoured form is based off a previous design.

THE LATEST DREAM RAID - page # 6

PAGE 6, PANEL 1;
Waffley's transformation is based off of Bruce Banner's transformation to the Hulk in the older Marvel comics. The gold hair's inspiration should be obvious to any anime fan. You can also see that the girl Waffley was sitting across is brunette, not blonde, so it's obviously not Vanna T that Waffley's dreaming about.

PANEL 4;
I wanted to showcase how a dream changing over might look.

THE LATEST DREAM RAID - page # 5

PAGE 5, PANEL 1;
I admit, I had trouble trying to convey the idea of the dreamscape being abstract.

The girl is based off of an art inspired by Etherealmuneca. The boy is based directly off of how my first heroic character currently looks and will look once Emberedge is completed. The food the boy is eating is the Lichwich, which came from another TL:DR comic strip.

PANEL 3;
The 'date''s identity is purposely obstructed. The game Waffley is mentioning here and in the next panel is Primal Rage 2. If you know anything about me, you will not be surprised I included a reference to Primal Rage.

PANEL 4;
The first attacking monster is based off a clay creation I made using a piece of a dead crab's armoured body. The second is based off of the Robot Masters. The fourth monster's head is based off of B.O.R.D.E.N. The fifth monster is inspired by the Ninja Crows from Samurai Pizza Cats. The eighth is based off of sushi.

OFF PANEL;The recoloured bird originally came from my JonTron fanart.

THE LATEST DREAM RAID - page # 4

PAGE 4, PANEL 1;
On the left side of Waffley's closet, you can see a blank vinyl doll. On the right side, you can see Waffley's traditional hoodie.

In the crack of the "Waffley's Lab' door, you can clearly see Reese, asleep. (Which means The Latest Dream Raid chronologically takes place during the TL:DR movie.)

PANEL 2;
You can see the names of Waffley's game collection. Go ahead, read them.

PANEL 3;
As Ensens and Endiff enter the dreamscape, you can see several images in the background. The two 'doodles' are references to my very first hero and villain, respectively. You can also see Vanna T, the robot from the shelf, and a sketch of the skeleton of Sue the T.Rex.

THE LATEST DREAM RAID - page # 3

PAGE 3, PANEL 2;
The girl on the poster is a famous supermodel named Vanna T, her name was coined by Captain Tooner. Waffley is a huge fan of her's.

PANEL 3;
This room is almost exactly how my apartment from my second and third years of college looked.

The crab on the shelf is the exact same crab from the first page of the Surfing Waffle, just painted differently. The robot next to the crab on the shelf is meant to be a homage to the Chaos Space Marines of Warhammer 40k. The bowl of chilis on the refridgerator is the same one that appeared in the first TL:DR comic strip.

 PANEL 4;
The doll next to Waffley is named 'Gibbs'. He was given to me by NixDieAlley in January 2011 as a Christmas, and hasn't left my side since.

THE LATEST DREAM RAID - page # 2

PAGE 2, PANEL 1;
Ensens and Endiff introduce themselves. The name Ensens is derived from the word insensitive, while the name Endiff is derived from indifferent. Their personalities were meant to reflect these name choices.

On the screens behind the Durgels, you can see several creatures. The intent was to showcase 'creatures in the process of having their dreams raided.'

You can see creatures based on past 'co-characters' Anti-Ziggy and the Lieutenant in the middle row of screens. On the screen blocked out by Dawbaws' head is actually Iridescent, the main monster from the short story 'Iridescent Ersatz', now referred to simply as 'Ersatz'.

PANEL 2;
The shape of the Durgel spaceship was designed after a camera, to hammer home the idea of the Durgels essentially being paparazzi.

THE LATEST DREAM RAID - page # 1

PAGE 1, PANEL 1;
The Durgel on the roof of the building on the right is coloured the same as the Surfing Waffle.

The building on the left hand side of the page has a giant screen with a pink feminine Durgel apparently promoting a drink. The lettering on the screen is the native language of the Durgels. It does not have a translation. The image on the can she is holding is of a lesser known character, Broke.

The blue section of the middle building is essentially just the Legendary Mailboxman, minus the decorations.

I wanted the Durgel planet to look similar to Earth, but yet make it clear that this is an alien species.

PANEL 2;
The green Durgel is the head of the Network and although he is not named during the comic, his name is Dawbaws, derived from 'the boss.' He was intentionally designed to look different from Ensens and Endiff because I wanted to show that the Durgel race came in many varieties.

For what it's worth

I've had some time to digest this week's... less than stellar election. And this is what I have to say to all my American friends and acquaintances who are besides themselves in shock right now.

I can't tell you what's going to happen in the next four years, I can't tell you it's going to be alright, and I can't tell you that nothing bad will happen.

I can tell you this though; you've lived through 9/11, the Afghanistan war, the Iraq war, hurricanes, gun violence, and all sorts of everyday madness and you are still here, working, eating, sleeping, providing, thinking, living and loving.
Life's not going to get a lot harder from now on. For all of us, American or not. But I honestly feel that if we stay hopeful, stay informed and stay vigilant, we'll all see 2020.

That's what I feel anyways, if it's worth anything.

Hal-Con 2016 report - the abridged version

PROS;
- Cosplayed as the Red Guy from Don't Hug Me I'm Scared. Surprisingly I wasn't the only Red Guy there.
- Fistbumped with Gates McFadden after she signed my Muppets Take Manhattan DVD.
- Shook hands with Phil LaMarr after he signed my Justice League Starcrossed DVD. In retrospect, it probaby would have been better to have had a DVD with Green Lantern on the cover, not the back or inside. He seems as happy for Samurai Jack's return as I am.
- Got a hug from Ajay Fry and an autographed picture of himself. And he signed one a picture of Morgan Hoffman because...um...Ajay?
- Jeremy "Boba Fett" Bulloch walked by me. (At least I think it was him.)
- I had the best unagi ever at this restaurant in Halifax called Fujiyama. Memorable restaurant. Highly recommended.
- Got to visit the Halifax Strange Adventures for the first time in 2016. I actually managed to visit the Dartmouth Strange Adventures for the first time ever earlier in the year.
- Got to go to DeSerres for the first time in ages.
- Caught the tail end of the Sailor Moon panel. Linda Ballantyne ended it by yelling "Moon Cosmic Power!" Toby Proctor pretended to throw a rose.
- Fat Apollo arrived to the con after a long flight to introduce the staff during the closing ceremonies.
- Someone in the TD bank building posted Mega Man and Mario sprites out of Post-It notes in one the floors' windows.
- YarrHooked gave me a free Kirby crochet keychain :3
- Bought some intriguing little items.
- Saw quite a number of old friends and acquantices, some for the first time in a long time. Even got a selfie with a few of them.
- Got a selfie with R2-D2. Yes you read that right.

CONS;
- Those little Digimon trading figures from Megahouse were sold out by the time I got there.
- Didn't have enough money to buy every little thing I wanted to take home with me. It was hard to walk away from the Disney Infinity Jessie and Buzz set and the vinyl Fone Bone toy. (I found Jessie and Buzz at Dollarama days later. For cheap.)
- Felt like crap for the full con but I managed not to get majorly ill, even after accidentally eating egg.

OTHER;
- Surprising, there were more Ravens than Harley Quinns.
- Unsurprisingly, there were lots of Sailor Scouts.
- And inflatable T-Rexes.
- And Yip-Yip Martians.:3
- Big Comfy Couch cosplays :)
- I actually recognized the Undertale cosplays.

 I haven't written a little con report since Hal-Con 2012. Huh. Time flies.

Thinking outloud

Most people know by now I am a graduate of the NSCC Digital Animation program. That graduation was in 2012. And I haven't done much with it since, unless you count signing up the Surfing Waffle in the Startoon Canadian cartoon character competition early in the year. I freely admit, I've never been good at animating. Something in the brain just doesn't click. But recently, I've been thinking some animation ideas. Nothing as elaborate as say, an animation pilot, but I think these ideas are worth looking into, if not for the value of experience, then maybe the value of laughs.

I just won't be starting them right away. I want to get my current projects completed and/or off the ground. I've always had a habit of doing too much at once. Heh.

November Update

2017 is almost upon us, but fortunately I have one more big adventure to look forward to before then, Hal-Con. This'll be my sixth year attending, and the first con I'll be attending this year.

2011 was amazing, 2012 was excellent, 2013...2014 was enjoyable, 2015 was exciting, and I am going into 2016's con with glee. But that's not what I'm yakking about this post.

As I go through my project ideas, trying to decipher which is the one I should be doing, I find myself sad that I have to put fun concepts like Average Fighter on the back burner. I can't exactly be posting projects on my Facebook page that I can't afford to make, right?

But I find myself mulling over older ideas, such as Watching DVDs, the simplistic YouTube review show I did for some time before the copyright strikes started. (Funny, because the only copyrighted material used in those videos was the cover to the respective DVD.) Should I simply repost the videos with new art? Is it the best use of my time to make title cards for four or five year old videos? Do I just reupload the old videos and see if the copyright sharks of YouTube will strike? (I apologize to actual sharks.)

One thing for certain, I still want to make better videos, especially after the South Sider interviews. I had never considered videomaking a career option beforehand. I think a silly little skit may be in order at some point.

How to make dried clay useable again

A special gift<3 br="">
Throw it in a plastic lunch bag, add a little bit of water, and massage the clay gently.

It's a slow, slow, process but it works and is worth it and totally cheaper than buying new bags of clay every month.

Full disclosure, the clay I used is air-dry. I have not used the kind you bake to make harden.

32nd

I'm 32 years old. Where does the time go? Isn't that what one always says? Where does the time go?

I made a commitment in September to write at least one blog post a month to insure that there would not be any more large gaps in time between posts. (Plus text takes up a heck of a lot less space than pixels do.)

Yum yums

Obligatory food post

Ever since they started putting milk-free cheese and chocolate on the shelf, I've been able to eat some of the foods I used to enjoy.

Should I post more food related things here?

Inktober collage coming soon

Rather than fill up this blog with thirty one more images (well, it's more like half that amount at the moment), I thought maybe I'd just make one big collage to share.

Anyone who would like to view my Inktober drawings on deviantArt or Instagram may see them here and here.

I hope everyone's having fun drawing and playing with ink and getting ready for Halloween!

Not officially an Inktober drawing but I thought it was worth posting.

Waffley Bloggin'

So, I figure, I should commit to writing one blog post a month. That way, there won't be weeks and weeks and weeks of no content.

First thing I want to talk about is that I am trying to take advantage of tumblr's usefulness, so I created a tumblr blog just for comics. http://waffleywebcomic.tumblr.com/

Since I do not have new pages to post (yet), I thought that maybe I ought to post my older work, as a way to chronicle how far I've come. I plan on returning to the Surfing Waffle webcomic, with a few other stories here and there. I don't know when it'll happen, but I want it to happen. Even if the final product turned out meh, I always enjoyed the comic-making process.

Finally, I've made a fitness blog on tumblr as well, but there's no progress there just yet. Heh...not a lot of topics this time around. Hopefully that'll change next time around!

AVERAGE FIGHTER fighting screen

I know. I'm silly.

AVERAGE FIGHTER selection screen

When reading from my bucket list, there's two specific ideas on the top of the 'gaming' section. To make a fighting game, and to use digitized sprites in a game. Now, by digitized sprites, I mean to have an actor act out the moves of the character in front of a green screen. The best examples of which would be the first three entries in the Mortal Kombat franchise. So, why the title 'Average Fighter'? Well, it came from a joke I made on Facebook, on how there should be a fighting game with everyday people, like an old Granny, or
a lifeguard. And since then, the name just stuck with my concept for a fighting game. I purposely kept the idea of 'averageness' when I choose the fonts and the look of the fighting game screen. The joke now being that the game's called 'Average Fighter' yet the content is anything but. I'm not entirely sure it turned out in my
favour. Regardless, here is a small concept for the masses on just how Average Fighter could look.

Special thanks to both Weekend Superhero and psylentknight for collaborating with me on this small little goofy idea.

Foxy and Toy Chica

(c) Scott Cawthon
Both require a few touch-ups but otherwise, these are complete. I do intend to make more Five Nights at Freddy's vinyls but for now I am working on different figurines.

Bonnie next to Nixxie

(c) Scott Cawthon
Nixxie was made from a Creatology brand Doodle Budz vinyl toy bought from Michael's. Bonnie was created from a different brand of vinyl (the name escapes me at the moment) bought at the Dollar Store but with the same basic shape. You can see the size difference. Also, the Creatology vinyl is much thicker and denser than the Dollar Store one.

NixDieAlley's content can be viewed here.

The chalky candy ended up in the fire. So much smoke...

Foxy the Pirate WIP

(c) Scott Cawthon
That mini-saw Mom bought me one year has paid for itself, more than once. It's how I removed Foxy's hand here. Unlike almost all of my vinyls, his head can't be turned.

Megatron takes shape

(c) Hasbro, Takara

Did you guess Megatron?

(c) Hasbro, Takara
I didn't make the head. It was originally a candy dispenser. (You know, that yucky chalky candy?)

2016;

Well, it’s 2016, and yours truly hasn’t made a single blog post as of yet. I won’t bore you with details but I will say that 2016 has had…well…a slow start. (Thankfully not because of winter’s influence. Yet.)

Before I make any further posts, I will say that I am aware that this blog needs some good ol’ fashioned T.L.C. (no, not tables, ladders and chairs. That’s a different blog.)

So, here’s just some thoughts on what I’m going to do with this blog.

- Any broken YouTube or BlipTV video links on this blog or the secondary blog will be left up for the time being until I am able to replace them.

- More written articles will be prepared for this blog. Namely the vast majority of which will be reviews of television shows, movies, and possibly other mediums. I also intend to make better records of different events that have occurred over time, such as conventions, personal experiences and getting stark raving mad at whatever’s going on in the world.

- I intend to participate in Inktober again.

- Unless it’s a special case, selfies will no longer be posted on this blog. That’s what Instagram’s for.

- I no longer wish to repeat the mistake of taking on more than one big project at a time.

- I have not forgotten about past promised videos.

- All artwork that had been uploaded onto Storm-Artists will slowly be moved to deviantArt.
So, that’s it basically. I can’t think of anything else to ramble about at the moment so I’ll end this blog post here. Thank you for reading.
